Local Breast Cancer Support Groups

Illinois Valley Breast Cancer Connection – Pink Ribbon Club – Now Here!
A “hybrid support group” meeting you on your breast cancer journey whether you are newly diagnosed and needing information, or you are a 20-year survivor looking to advocate and support other breast cancer survivors. Pink Ribbon Club is a collaborative effort coming to you from your area medical professionals and hospitals because you deserve access to the area’s best resources no matter which hospital or services you choose to use on your journey.  Pink Ribbon Club of IVBrCa will meet on the fourth Wednesday of the month at the Valley Regional Cancer Center in Peru.  It begins at 5:30 PM with a light meal and progresses to include supportive conversation and an educational topic by one of the sponsoring medical professionals.  Please “Like” us on Facebook to stay updated.

Sister Support of Illinois Valley Community Hospital (IVCH) in Peru, IL
Sister Support meets the first Thursday of the month at 1PM. The format varies, but usually involves discussion and support. It frequently has an educational topic. The leader is a resourceful 20+ year breast cancer survivor. Please search “cancer” on the hospital calendar under the “health resources tab” at for the meeting times or click here.

Rebound of St. Margaret’s Health in Spring Valley, IL
Rebound presently meets the third Wednesday of the month. The format is casual and meets for dinner at a local restaurant. The leader is Gayle Reno. She is a 19+ year breast cancer survivor. St. Mary’s Hospital’s Breast Cancer Support Group, Streator, IL
The goal of this group is to provide educational resources and support to breast cancer patients and survivors. St. Mary’s Breast Cancer Support Group meets the second Tuesday of every month, from 6 – 7 p.m. in St. Mary’s Assembly Hall South. Local cancer support (not specific to type)

Cancer Patient Support of St. Mary’s Hospital, Streator, IL. The cancer patient support group meets at 11 a.m. on Fridays in the American Cancer Society Patient Resource Center. Please call (815)672-1802 for more information about the group.

Cancer Patient Support @ Fox River Cancer Center takes place the second Tuesday of the month in the conference room from 3-4PM. Oncology nurse, Teresa, is the facilitator of the support group. Contact Teresa at 815-434-9999.

Regional Breast Cancer Support

OSF Saint Francis/Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Support Group, Peoria, IL, is a support group located at the OSF Center for Health at 8600 Route 91 in Peoria, IL. The group meets the second Wednesday of the month from 5:30-7PM. The format includes a “networking session” from 5:30-6:00PM, from 6-7PM an educational program and a light meal. Gilda’s Club, Davenport, IA, is a cancer support community. Gilda’s Club is a free nonprofit emotional and social support community for people living with cancer, their families, and friends. They offer a variety of free programs. Telephone: (563) 326-7504. Please note that there are several Gilda’s Clubs around the Chicago Metropolitan area also.

Regional Cancer Support

Camp Kesem at Augustana College, Rock Island, IL, is a nationwide community-driven camp by college student leaders to support children through and beyond their parent’s cancer. This is a one-week camp for children from ages 6 to 16. The camp is free of charge. Apply in January of each year and spots are filled on a first-come first-served basis. Cancer Center for Health Living, Peoria, IL, is a healthy living support center for cancer patients, families, and caregivers. They offer programs and services to help “heal the mind, body, and spirit.” Many programs are free of charge. A Wednesday support group meets at 1PM at the Cancer Center for Healthy Living. A Friday support group meets at 10AM at Illinois Cancer Care in Peoria. Please contact Kitty Beineman at (309)243-3461 for more information on the cancer support groups.

Kids Konnected, Peoria, IL, is a support group and a networking opportunity for children whose parents or caregivers have or had cancer. They meet the first Thursday and third Monday of each month at 6PM at the Hult Building, Proctor Hospital, Peoria, IL. Groups are broken down by age or topic. Online support group

Cancer Support Community is a charitable organization with headquarters in Washington, D.C., offering information, advocacy, and online support to cancer survivors. They specifically offer “The Living Room” to connect individuals coping with cancer. Trained professionals interact in the discussions. The chat room meets weekly for 90 minutes as a support group. “The Living Room” also offers discussion boards available 24/7. It also has a link to create your own webpage to keep in contact with your family members during your journey. If you have difficulty getting to a support group because of meeting times, this may be for you.
